Why Ludo?

Ludo is a game of 4 teams, with 4 players. Each team needs to make a journey completing the entire circuit of the board. Think: hero’s journey. At any time, a team member from another team can land on your square and you need to return to the start square for your team. It is a setback, might feel demoralising but you may well catch up or pass that player as you attempt your next circuit of the board. The aim of the game is for ALL the teams to meet in the middle at the finish. A common goal, requiring all team members to get there. In Latin, Ludo means ‘to play’.

We, at Ludo HQ, feel the game Ludo is a metaphor for an organisation. Regardless of the team, you are in, the game demonstrates resilience, diversity, and moments where the strategy may suffer a setback but ultimately everyone is after the same end goal.

This is why we are called Ludo. We recognise there are setbacks in a business, and moments when we have to work as a team to support one another. The journey may not be the way we expect but the strive to win and come together can be felt at the heart of a business with the right culture, the right strategy and the right support.

Imogen Short shares how the hero’s journey is so important for employee engagement. ‘Employees are not bystanders in a company’s story. They are the living and breathing heroes at the centre of the journey. Their dreams and goals are at stake.

Meet Elizabeth

I’m Elizabeth, founder of Ludo.

As a WoMo (working mother), I’ve been through – and continue to face – many of the challenges women and other growing families may be experiencing. I love my brood: two daughters and a son. But I also loved my career as a VP of HR, and now Founder of Ludo, and I’m proud of both the Wo and Mo parts of my life.

I’m passionate about lots of things in life, and women who work is right up there at the top for me. I have an energy for life that drives some people slightly mad, so when I said I wanted to create the a business to supercharge inclusion in the workplace, I think people around me gave a heavy sigh! But I believe in it wholeheartedly. I believe everyone deserves equitable support in the workplace, and a resource for challenging moments.

As a HR leader, I see wellbeing and inclusion from both the employer and the employee sides. I’ve seen maternity leave and returning to work managed brilliantly. I’ve also seen it be a complete disaster. If we get it right from both sides the return to work can be a far easier transition for both.  I have seen marginalised employees leave as a result of unfair treatment and I have led teams through successful strategic DEI initiatives, embedded for the long term, and demonstrated through clear measures.

Ludo leads and works alongside businesses to drive a winning culture, with happier employees and measures translating to the bottom line.
