Have you watched You Are What You Eat, a twin experiment, on Netflix?  If you haven’t, I highly recommend it.  It is fascinating.  I wear an Oura ring, I think about what I put into my body (well most of the time anyway!) so body stats for optimum health fascinate me.

Fundamentally, the documentary puts sets of twins on an 8 week diet.  One fully carnivore and one twin on a vegan diet.  I am no nutritionist and I don’t advocate for either, and regardless of your eating choices, it is good viewing!

As part of the documentary, the twins undertake all sorts of testing, to see the impact of the diets on their health.  One of those tests is the twins are sent for a DEXA bodyscan.  You can see a video here that tells you a bit more.

I watched the series with my boyfriend, and we both said ‘Let’s do it!’.  We did our first Hyrox last year as a relay and we are training to do it as a couple.  2024 has kicked off with a health push to get us fit for Hyrox and pay attention to our longevity.

So today was the day… we headed to the clinic in London and got ourselves scanned.  You just need to strip down to your undies, or wear a gown and have a lie down.  It’s that easy.  The actual scanning part takes no longer than 4 minutes, and then Rob, the man in the know, talked us through our results.  Together.  We had very different profiles, with different targets to get our bodies to where they need to be for optimum health.  We had two things in common though, we both need to eat more protein and build more muscle mass.  Even more important as we get older.

I cannot recommend it enough.  I have stepped out the door with new found information and a curiosity of what can be done with the right protein and the right kind of strength training.  We are back in 3 months to measure the progress.  I’ll give you all an update!

After all that, I took myself for a cup of fresh mint tea.  I needed a sit down to process all the info!
