Our Ludo partner Rebekah Lloyd is getting ready for her amazing up and coming event “The Future of Endometriosis” and we at Ludo are so excited for her we wanted to shout about it too. Here is what Rebekah has to say about the event.

The Future of Endometriosis will be the first patient-led event of its kind in the UK and there’ll be an exciting and informative mix of panels, roundtables, speakers, and partners and an opportunity for content and advertising through our platform and promotions, generally for you as an organisation but also if you want to share any resources you have to support the women’s health or start up community given your area of expertise and focus.

My endometriosis educational support group is a non-profit part of my own social impact business, This Independent Life, that was inspired by my experience and the needs of other women and I was looking to attend something like this personally but as it didn’t exist I thought I’d create it and here we are! I personally underwent a 10 year journey to diagnosis and surgery after repeated dismissals and misdiagnoses, and have also worked the majority of my career in healthcare, from scientific research to the NHS to pharmaceuticals and communications. The cause of endometriosis is unknown, there is no definite cure and it takes on average 7-10 years to get diagnosed, costing the UK economy alone £8.2bn a year in treatment, loss of work and healthcare costs let alone impact on quality of life. It’s the 2nd most common gynaecological condition and affects 1 in 10 women globally, a similar prevalence to diabetes, yet when it comes to endometriosis and women’s health generally, women are deeply suffering in silence and are even dying due to lack of support, and it’s sad to say that the situation is now an epidemic. I want to help make positive change for people with endometriosis and women’s health conditions, and help elevate the need for increased interest, investment and innovation, as well as bridging the silos in the space, so I hope this will be a step in making that a reality

This Independent Life is taking our endometriosis support group and monthly Endo Educators sessions up a notch for an in-person get together! Come and join The Future of Endometriosis, our inaugural, first-of-its-kind, patient-led endometriosis conference in London bringing together different voices and perspectives to talk about how we can collectively change the future of endometriosis. There’ll be an exciting and informative mix of panel discussions and expert speakers, roundtable hackathons, networking, and free goodie bags worth £100’s plus discounted resources and options for support through our wonderful partners. For too long, endometriosis has not been taken seriously. It affects 1 in 10 women globally, a similar prevalence to diabetes, yet takes on average 7-10 years to get diagnosed. There is currently no cure, no true understanding of the cause, nor form of diagnosis other than surgery. But there is hope. Together, we will elevate and ignite interest, investment, and innovation and make positive change a reality once and for all.
